A simple dice game, Chuck-a-luck is easy to play, but is rare to find in modern casinos. The game is played in an hourglass shaped metal cage inside which dice are placed. Three big size dice are placed inside an hourglass shaped metal cage, which is 18-inch tall. Those who are familiar with this game of chuck-a-luck call this metal cage as birdcage. The metal cage consists of two wide flat spots on either ends where the dice are placed at any one end before the game is played. After placing the dice at one end, the cage is turned so that the dice get rotated nicely. Before the game starts, bets are placed and once betting is complete, the cage is spun, and the dice are allowed to rotate inside the cage. Coming to a stand-still mode, the dice are totalled, and the winner is announced.
Bets can be placed either in terms of chips or cash depending upon the casino rules. In a chuck-a-luck game, there are essentially five types of bets, which can be placed; namely numbers bet, field bet, high bet, low bet and very peculiar “any triple” bet.
In case of numbers bet, the player can place his or her bet on a single number in anywhere from 1 to 6. If the outcome comes in favour of the number you chose, even-cash or even-chips will be paid for each die. This simply means that, for example, if you choose the number 5. If one of 3 dice turns out to be 5, then you will be paid 1 to 1, and if two dice turn out to be 5 on each of them, you will be paid 2 to 1, and similarly if 3 dice turn out to be 5 on each of them, you will be paid 3 to 1.
Field bet is a bet on the total of the outcomes from the three dice. These bets are placed between 3 and 7 or 13 and 18. Winner of this bet would also be paid even-cash or even-chips. High bet is the one where; players bet that the total of the outcomes from the three dice would be over 10. If the outcome is less than 11 or even if the same number is shown by all these three dice, the players who placed the bets may lose. Even-cash or even-chips would be paid for the winner of the high bet.
Low bet is the one where players bet that the total of the outcomes from the three dice would be under 11. If the result is over 10 or even if all the three dice show the same number, the players lose. Here, also winners would be paid even-cash or even-chips. “Any triple” is the bet wherein the players bet that the three dice would show the same number.
